KINDNESS
It is great to see the sun out and our children playing in the yard at lunch times again. The joy, fun and community spirit is always on show at St Joseph’s. However I did need to talk to all students at our last assembly reminding them about being kind and the fact that kindness is never wasted. I did this through the fable of ‘The Lion and the Mouse’. I reminded the children that kindness is caring about others and doing things to help make their lives better, allowing us to connect with people and build meaningful relationships in order to ensure that St Joseph’s is the kind of place where everyone is KIND.
Today we completed our second Joey’s Juniors Transition day, meaning that all of our Kinder students for 2023 have now experienced their first session at St Joseph’s. While this was occurring, the parents/carers of both groups experienced a learning session run by Mr Eppingstall. Parents seemed to get a lot out of this session which outlined the way we teach Literacy at St Joseph’s.
The Benefits of Effective Parent-Teacher Communication
‘A 2020 study’ has found ‘that teachers feel parents often fail to keep them informed about major changes happening at home that could affect their students’. ‘The outcomes’ of this ‘research determines that teachers need to be updated on major events in a child’s life, such as divorce, major illness or accidents and death in the family’. ‘A teacher without any knowledge of what is going on at home will lack context as to the true cause and may put it down to general behavioural problems’.
The researcher advises that a teacher who has context from parents, can be more understanding towards students who are struggling or acting out and is able to effectively work on addressing the problems correctly’.
‘Teachers and parents have equally important, although different, roles in a child’s overall development, and when working together can give the child the best possible education and upbringing’.
‘The study outlined a number of helpful and proactive ways’ to improve communication in order to benefit our children.
- Over-communicate- Information is King. The more you can share with your teachers the better equipped they will be to help your children.
- Swap contact details- Make sure teachers are aware of the best time and method to contact you.
- Be proactive- Reach out to the teacher if you have a concern about your child rather than waiting for them to contact you.

At St Joseph’s, parent partnership is one of our most focused objectives, and we hope that we have kept strong communication connections between our school and home. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teachers if you have any questions, concerns or information which may better help us support you and your child’s growth and learning.
As always, I thank you for your support in regards to your child’s ongoing learning.

Driving Excellence in the Macleay
Since ancient times the aromatic herb, Rosemary, has been believed to have properties to improve the memory. Perhaps because of this, it became an emblem of both fidelity and remembrance in literature and folklore.
Rosemary has particular significance for Australians too, as it is found growing wild on the Gallipoli Peninsula. November 11, Armistice Day of World War I, became a focus to commemorate the victims of War, to decry the loss, wastage and cruelty of humanity to its own kind; to ask that we not forget those who were near and dear to us. But awful as it was, World War I did not prove to be “the war to end all wars”, as any scrutiny of the years since amply shows.
Therefore, we continue to need, and to pray for, peace as a theme of this week. In our spiritual life, the celebration of Eucharist is memorial of the teachings and the presence of Jesus who said, ‘Do this in memorial of me’. It is also a regular reminder that being thankful is of the essence of the way of Jesus.
All things change; we remember and give thanks.
We thank you for food; we remember the hungry.
We thank you for health; we remember the sick.
We thank you for loved ones; we remember the friendless.
May these remembrances prompt us to service,
that your gifts to us be of help to others.
Amen

Catholic Identity and Mission in Our School
WITH MRS ERIN MCGOVERN
SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Congratulations to all of our students who were confirmed on Monday by Bishop Greg. The students enjoyed a beautiful liturgy surrounded by family and the St Joseph’s community. Special thanks to Mrs Tarrant, Mrs Chambers and Fr James for preparing the students so well.
BISHOP GREG VISIT
On Monday we had Bishop Greg make a visit to our school and speak with all students in Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6. He answered lots of questions and shared a great message with students about the importance of knowing right from wrong, being a good person and doing good things. He shared morning tea with the teachers and thanked staff for the wonderful care they show daily to our students.
CRAZY SOCK DAY
Thankyou to all the students who generously donated to Catholic Mission last Friday by wearing their ‘crazy socks’. It is always a great day and lots of students had fun showing off their crazy sock creations. Together we raised $202.00. Thankyou.

School Drop-Off and Pick-Up Zone
What is a School Drop-off and Pick-up zone?
- These areas are always on the school side of the road and are designated by “No Parking” signs.
- They provide a safe spot for parents and carers to drop off and collect their children from school by car.
- Drivers may drop off and pick up passengers legally within a two-minute timeframe without leaving their vehicle or turning off the engine.
A reminder to all parents that student drop-off in the mornings and pick-up at the conclusion of school is to occur within the designated School Drop-off Pick-up Zone, adjacent to the Hall. In order to minimise congestion and for safety reasons we ask that parents do not wait for children at this location, it is for quick and safe drop-off and pick-up only.
A reminder of the importance of keeping school and community members safe by:
- Parking safely and legally
- Always turning legally around the school
- Not double parking as it puts children at risk
- Not using manoeuvres such as U-turns and three-point turns
- Making sure your children use the rear footpath side door to get in and out of the car
- Reminding your child to stay buckled up until the vehicle has stopped in the drop-off and pick-up area
- Modelling calm, safe and considerate behaviour.
NOTE:
Please be extra mindful of the Bus Zone, Drop-Off & Pick-Up Zone and Disabled Parking Zones outside of the School and Church. Many parents have been fined for unwittingly entering these zones outside of designated times and/or without the appropriate permit.
The Drop-Off & Pick-Up Zone is for a minimum of 2 minutes.
