Last week we saw our students shine as they performed in the Joey’s Presents… A Night of the Stars. What more can I say! The kids were great, and their acts were highly polished. Again, I acknowledge our staff for getting the acts to this level. I also thank our families and friends who attended both the Matinee and Evening Performances, adding to the Spectacular.
KINDERGARTEN 2023
We still have spaces in our Kinder classes for next year. Please spread the word about how St Joseph’s is Driving Excellence in Education.
THE STUDENT LEARNING JOURNEY
St Joseph’s Primary, recently hosted NCEC deputy executive director Sally Egan as part of her visit to the region. Sally and Assistant Director, Michele McDonald from the Diocese of Lismore, worked alongside the St Joseph’s Leadership team. Sally Egan said,
"The focus was to learn more about the impact of embedding their precision of practice and deliberate engagement of knowing every face as a learner towards growth,”
"It was clear there has been a deliberate 'systemness' focus and evidence of improved student outcomes."

END OF YEAR SCHEDULE 2022 AND START OF SCHOOL 2023 SCHEDULE
I have outlined below the Schedule for the last weeks of the 2022 School Year, and the first week of the 2023 school year. This can also be found in the School Calendar. Please note the final day of the year for all students, being Wednesday the 14th December 2022.
Please contact the School of you have any questions regarding this schedule, being aware that more information regarding certain events will be published as they get closer.
UNIFORM REMINDER
It is important that all students wear the School Uniform and take pride in their appearance, as this is a very public way of exhibiting our School identity. It is the responsibility of parents and families to ensure that our children wear the correct uniform to school every day.
THANK YOU
To all of our families, I thank you for your support in regards to your child’s ongoing learning and I look forward to welcoming our students back to Term 4 on Tuesday the 11th October.
Kind Regards,
Guy Campbell

“I am not so sure that I believe”
Have you ever had a conversation with someone about issues of your faith and no matter what you say to them they always have answers founded in what they call reason?
“I am not so sure that I believe the same way you do”. As much as the aspects of God and the experiences of our every day world effect us every second, refuting the existence of God using science-based facts, conspiracy theories and vaguely held scepticism, is common and very easy to do.
For a lot of people, death is the final frontier and prayer is just a security blanket for the ignorant.
Luke’s Gospel presents the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man was not a bad person per se but one blinded by what he could or would not see. For him, life was presented only through his senses, a transcended reality was not his reality.
There are times when we can all fall into this fault. Belief beyond our sensory reality is difficult. Even if God eliminated all illness overnight from the world and messaged everyone through social media, we would still struggle to believe.
St John of the Cross spoke of the Dark Night of the Soul, St Augustine struggles through his Confessions, St Teresa of Calcutta spoke many times of her unbelief, and St Thomas needed the assurance of placing his fingers into the wounds of Jesus. All these experiences of faith journeys give us a great sense of hope in our humble journeys.
“When the disciple saw Jesus they worshipped him; but some doubted” (Matthew 28.17)
Prayer
Holy Father, I believe but help my unbelief!
Amen

YEAR 3 HISTORY
In the past week our Year 3 students have been receiving mysterious postcards, newspaper articles and artifacts dating back to 1901. Today it became clear that this was a rescue mission to find Albus, who went missing at age 11, and restart history. With some careful research into Australia’s history, investigating and puzzle solving Year 3 were able to help our visitor Zelda to find her long lost brother. Thank you to NORPA theatre Company for your help to solve this mystery.
BUDDING POETS
POETRY WEEK
Students where asked to write a four line poem on the topic of "anything to do with animals". Here are a few more notable entries:
Knife soaring teeth, slimy old skin.
Eel is a repulsive weird looking thing
Alastar O’Donnell
Slobber, bark and growl.
You play, you sleep, you prowl.
Inside and outside, you come and go.
You roll over for a treat and bury a bone.
Adam Clay
He's a snake, slippery as an eel
Strong as an ox, sly like a fox
He's a tiger, jumps like a flea
Metaphors and similes
Ken Eppingstall
Tassie devils smell like pebbles dancing in the dark,
Tassie devil so fierce and strong and stays so long.
Tassie devil please be quiet your screaming sounds,
Are not a delight.
Lacey Drew
Kookaburra laughing at the trees, waiting and waiting to sweep the bees
Hidden and camouflaged by the trees above the tree branch so tall in the breeze above.
Breakfast is served under the stump,
Kooka attacks, getting some lunch.
Astin Mackay
With rainbow wings and feathers of brightness.
Lorikeets are beautiful in the sky.
Beaks and wings in flight,
what a gorgeous sight.
Olivia Rutledge
O blue and delicate skies,
my feathers and wings.
Shining so bright in the night sky.
Feathers, feathers everywhere.

School Drop-Off and Pick-Up Zone
What is a School Drop-off and Pick-up zone?
- These areas are always on the school side of the road and are designated by “No Parking” signs.
- They provide a safe spot for parents and carers to drop off and collect their children from school by car.
- Drivers may drop off and pick up passengers legally within a two-minute timeframe without leaving their vehicle or turning off the engine.
A reminder to all parents that student drop-off in the mornings and pick-up at the conclusion of school is to occur within the designated School Drop-off Pick-up Zone, adjacent to the Hall. In order to minimise congestion and for safety reasons we ask that parents do not wait for children at this location, it is for quick and safe drop-off and pick-up only.
A reminder of the importance of keeping school and community members safe by:
- Parking safely and legally
- Always turning legally around the school
- Not double parking as it puts children at risk
- Not using manoeuvres such as U-turns and three-point turns
- Making sure your children use the rear footpath side door to get in and out of the car
- Reminding your child to stay buckled up until the vehicle has stopped in the drop-off and pick-up area
- Modelling calm, safe and considerate behaviour.
NOTE:
Please be extra mindful of the Bus Zone, Drop-Off & Pick-Up Zone and Disabled Parking Zones outside of the School and Church. Many parents have been fined for unwittingly entering these zones outside of designated times and/or without the appropriate permit.
The Drop-Off & Pick-Up Zone is for a minimum of 2 minutes.
