Book Week - More than just a Parade
At our last whole school assembly, I spoke to all students about the importance of life-long reading and how it will make you a life-long learner. I told students how reading will boost their school performance, increase the amount of words they know, raise their self-esteem, build good communication skills, and strengthen their brain.
While this exemplifies the importance of reading, what I witnessed at our Book Week Parade this week, was a vibrant and engaging community event. The purpose of Book Week is to bring children and books together, however, I saw an event that brought our St Joseph’s community together, albeit for an hour. It was great to see so many happy smiling faces from both our children and their parents, carers and families. Well done everyone!
I thank you for your support in regards to your child’s ongoing learning.

GOSPEL REFLECTION
Humility
In this week’s Gospel, Jesus is reminding the dinner guests to think beyond the need to get the best seats, for how wonderful will you feel if you are gushed over by the host and asked to move to the front and better seats. We need to remember, however, that as people of Christ, humility humbly makes us no better than anyone else. When we look deep within ourselves, at the core of our hearts, we can see that we are just like everyone else in this world, we are vulnerable, alone, fearful, naked, self-centered, inadequate, helpless, contingent, just as much in need of God as everyone else on this earth, and, thus, no better than anyone else. This does shine a different light on the Gospel and the deeper meaning of the parable story of Jesus.
Love is the affinity which links and draws together the elements of the world... Love, in fact, is the agent of universal synthesis. (Pierre Teilhard de Chardin)

Texts4Families
Positive Partnerships has a new project to support families to learn about autism through a FREE text based service. The service will support families to:
- learn more about their child’s strengths and interests, sensory processing and communication needs
- connect to resources that are evidence based
- consider ways of working with their child’s school and other professionals
- understand the importance of looking after themselves
The service is suitable for all families of school aged children on the autism spectrum that would benefit from receiving informative and supportive text messages, directly to their phones.
